Any time I discuss this, I get a lot of heat from people.
Here is why I am suspicious.
Why do we make ethanol plants, and not mandate reduced car sizes?
I just this moment saw a news report on TV that said it’s estimated that Ethanol has increased the cost of groceries for the country $14 BILLION dollars this year. Why do we not just make 8 cylinder engines illegal? Or require vehicles to have 20 mpg minimum ratings OR tax high end vehicles? Which leads me to..
Why is the U.N. suggesting a flat .$35 cent gas tax as a solution?
$.35 has a noticable impact on the poorer people in industrialized nations. It will not be noticed much by anyone living in Beverly Hills. Why not put a tax on the sale of vehicles that get less than 30 mpg? Or a small tax for those between 25-30, a higher tax or 15-25, etc etc.
Anytime you hear something that makes you afraid, be suspicious.
Global Warming strikes fear into everyone. Any time something can make people afraid, it can be abused. It’s human nature for people to react to anything that threatens their life. This makes it easy to get people to follow the idea. If global warming was just going to affect Asia and Russia, would the US be doing much about it? Unfortunately, no. People know that the way to get the public to react is through fear. Terrorism, the War on Terror.
Why do they make hybrids with 4 cylinder engines? Why do they make SUV hybrids?
Example: the Nissan Altima. Did you know that on the highway, it only gets 2 mpg more than the gas version? Hybrids, it seems, get better gas mileage in the city. The official mileage for the gas version is 26/34, but the hybrid is 42/36. It gets the best jump in city driving, because the constant start and stop traffic is when the electric motors can really help.
The Hybrid’s net HP? 198. Why so much? Why not give it net 150 hp and get even better mileage? Both the basic Altima and the hybrid version use 2.5L gasoline engines. The hybrid has 158 HP, the basic Altima has 175 HP.
Now add the expense of the electric motors, the ‘energy’ required to make them, the cost to replace them. The Hybrid has MORE parts, which mean higher maintenance costs, more parts for manufacturers to make money with.
Why not compensate for the added energy required to make the electric motors by reducing the size of the engine? Why not have a 1.9L engine, reduce the steel needed, and get REALLY good gas mileage?
Why is no one talking about what will happen 20 years from now when the worlds population has grown?
Now the true environmentalists will talk about this, and other things i’ve pointed out. Chances are, they were environmentalists before Global Warming became worldwide news. But I don’t see any TV show, newspaper, or politician asking “what happens when we reduce CO2 by 10%… and then our population grows by 12-13%?” This would get us back to where we started. (It seems odd, but it would take a 12-13% growth to equal out the 10% cutback in CO2 emissions…) No one seems to point out that we would have to cut emissions by 10% every 10 years or so to keep up with population control.
Which might not be needed… since we are making all our corn into Ethanol, many poor nations will have even more trouble feeding their people.
Why didn’t any of the Global Warming proponents talk about solar activity affecting the world’s climate?
I don’t follow this stuff religiously, but from what I have seen, once it was shown that solar activity seems to follow the global temp more than CO2, now the response is ‘well humans still do affect the temp, they just aren’t the only factor.’
It still doesn’t explain how CO2 seems to follow temperature increases. Now things have changed. CO2 didn’t initiate climate change, but it still affects it. Huh? Wasn’t CO2 *initiating climate change* the entire premise?
Look at this article. Now the tone has changed. Now the idea is that ‘greenhouse gases can still affect climate.’ My absolute favorite part is where the author says.
“The likely cause was massive releases of methane from the ocean floors, perhaps due to some smaller warming or changes in sea level.”
And people get upset with me when I doubt Global Warming? When you paying $.35 more for you gas because of the U.N. approved gas tax, remember someone somewhere is making a LOT of money off of that tax. Somewhere, some company is going to get paid to plant trees to combat CO2 emissions.
