The media reports that for the first time ever, a ship could travel the Northwest Passage, due to so much reduced ice, etc.

But this really nice blog post will show you it is pretty easy to find over a dozen such journeys, as far back as the 1950s. The BBC reported it in 2000, as also being the first time the journey was made, and now did it again in 2007.

Is this proof about Global Warming? Real or Hoax? nah

But should we trust what we read either? nah

The Truth is Out There, and we will likely never know what it is. :(

There is a real consequential opening up of the passage. National leaders are aware of it and there have already been some pissing matches about who has sovereignty over the area.

But I agree that the first time ever statement is oversimplified.

  2. it is very interesting if you look into global warming, it was once said that the earth was in danger of cooling and the threat was global cooling. now its global warming, and they want us to pay lots of tax to ofset carbon, even thou carbon is something that makes plants grow better.

i love the enivornment but i think the whole global warming thing i due to the sun, and its really all about taxing us more

My suspicions are the same, but it is almost impossible to know for sure. It is very suspicious that early on all you heard was ‘CO2 goes up, Temps go up’ and then, when evidence came out that CO2 doesn’t go up *first* but that temps go up, and CO2 follows… now everything has changed, its not ‘Global Warming’ its ‘CLimate Change’ and no one talks about CO2 actually causing warming, it just screws with things.

Even though it is less than 1% of our atmosphere. And… Gore cited Jupiter’s high CO2 levels as proof that CO2 caused warming…. but Mars has 95% CO2 and it isn’t warm…

there are a LOT of inconsistencies with the whole thing, articles like these don’t make things simpler, that is for sure.

And the warmest decade of the 20thC wasn’t the nineties but the 1930s.
Although we are seeing the gloves coming off with America, Canada, Norway and Russia contesting over ownership of the arctic and the northwest passage – the economics of global warming for shipping and oil rights.

  5. It was bad reporting I must admit! However, the reports were misleading only because they failed to say that the northwest passage was now commercially viable as a route for transport due to global warming.

  6. Zorn says:

i have to re-read the article, i thought it was saying the passage was NOT now commerically viable because of global warming – since boats had made it through the passage more than 60 years ago…

  10. Science HUB says:

According to a report published by the Global Humanitarian Forum, chaired by Kofi Annan, global warming already killed 300,000 people per year and this figure could rise to 500,000 by 2030.
