I recently saw a video about the American education system… did you know that 65% of the US population are unable to point England on the World’s map? Geez, I’d be ashamed of myself… I pity those poor kids that are thought nothing in school.
The stat of 65% shocks and saddens me. The reasons behind it are complex, but the bottom line is that there is no excuse for that.

You really need to read international news magazines (and if possible a newspaper or two from other countries) to get a feel of whats going on in the world.
For example, the Economist, a British publication which some of you might not like because it tends to be conservative (but not in the American, bush/rove sense), however it has news from all over the world.
This is shocking! But I also have to admit that this is the truth. I moved into the US from Europe and at the university they are teaching things I studied in the elementary school.

Mass media especially the News and Journalism aspect of it, has been abusing their power for too long, not really taking care of the responsibility of informing the world of current events. Perhaps, if it was treated as less of a business, but more of a task and a mandate to inform the public, then we would actually see some improvements. If one newspaper/tv station (etc.) would take the lead, I’m pretty sure many would follow. We need to revolutionize news media.
